Set in a dystopian near-future United States, Civil War follows war journalists trying to capture the perfect photograph in a country torn apart by civil war. One aims for the most gritty, another for the aesthetic, and the third for the most daring shot.
Directed by Alex Garland (known for “Ex Machina” and “28 Days Later”), the film grips you and is so immersive that you can almost smell the lingering scent of gunpowder in the air.
The performances are excellent: Kirsten Dunst is excellent as a cynical, burnt out war photographer, while breakout star Cailee Spaeny (from “Priscilla”) delights as a young, initially naive journalist on the rise.
